The Hunger Games (First Book in Hunger Games Series), Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games (First Book in Hunger Games Series), Suzanne Collins *****(5 Stars) Science Fiction. A great book that I just finished reading, Hunger Games is about beating the odds and not surrendering. The Hunger Games takes place in the near future, where America has blown itself up and restarted again, calling itself Panem (bread in Latin). This is the setting for the Hunger Games, a game in which two children from each district -there's twelve- fight to the death for the entertainment of the upper class. Katniss is one of these children. Throughout the book you follow Katniss and her companion Peeta as they battle through the hunger games and eventually emerge victorious, but not free. There's quite a bit of violence, as you would expect, I didn't cach any swearing but there's some kissing, lots of drinking, and some disturbing parts where people go crazy and start seeing things, but otherwise it's pretty clean. 13+

Percy Jackson Series, Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson Series , Rick Riordan   *****(5 Stars) Fantasy. The Percy Jackson series is a great read, teaching about the Greek gods and myth, but with a modern twist. It's a great way to introduce your kids to Greek myths, because they will actually enjoy reading it. The main plot for the series is the Greek gods are still aroundand they move to wherever the center of civilization is, which in this case is the USA. As it turns out, the main character Percy Jackson is Poseidon's son, and therefore inherits some of his powers. This causes trouble for him though, as monsters are constantly chasing him, and he gets little drop-ins from gods from time to time ( very inconvenient) . Then Zeus's lightning bolt is stolen, and Percy is blamed. Pretty bad luck if you ask me. Now Percy has to find Zeus's lightning bolt, with help of his faithful satyr (goat person) Grover and the help of his friend/enemy Annabeth, and get it back before the Summe...

Ender's Game (Ender Book 1), Orson Scott Card *****(5 Stars) Science Fiction. This is a great book that I read for school. It's about a child in the future who grows up in a military school where he learns to fight aliens and how to fend for himself. 13+ for some swearing and violence.
